Civil War
04:15

There's a civil war in my home
it's brother against brother blood and bone
no one is really sure who is in the right
we don't even know who's in the wrong
we don't even know what went wrong
We've lost the innocence we used to know
the darkness in our souls have taken hold
you are wrong and i am wrong, and everything's not fine
but it's not too late to make our wrongs right
I will seek you out and you will hide
a simple solution for simple lives
i say I'll count to thirty, but really i count to ten
erasing any trace of the line
and the truth is now mine to decide
We played war in the yard
its how we got these broken arms split heads and scars
so dig in deep and hold the lines till there's nothing but lies
and bury our heads in the ground
and i blamed you for tearing up the yard
and you blamed me for breaking your arm,
but i still don't know what we were fighting for
We've lost the innocence we used to know
the darkness in our souls have taken hold
you are wrong and i am wrong, and everything's not fine
but it's not too late to make our wrongs right
it's not too late to make our wrongs right

Bonneville
04:30
|
|||
Sitting in the backseat bathed in purple light
driving to the thrift mart to see what we can find
his old eyes were not so tired back then
and my brothers and I were maybe window height
and everything was filled with light
In that Bonneville
As a young man he was a soldier
he fought in the second great war
and i know he had stories he couldn't bring himself to tell,
but his greatest enemy became his own body
and after several boughs his will must have given out
and now he's just a picture on a shelf
and memories i may have made up myself
In this Bonneville
You're all that's left
And now the white paint is chipping away
and the purple tint is peeling off and fading into grey
the warning light stays on for months at a time,
but don't you worry everything is fine
the windshield is telling stories of friends and elevated minds
of late nights and streetlights with Emily by my side
the light that i remember grows dimmer each day,
but a new bright is shining in the dark
and we'll get there no matter how far
